The Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center is a vital, active hub for emerging and established artists and arts organizations. The Performing Arts Coalition, Salt Lake County, The Redevelopment Agency of Salt Lake City, major donor I. J. "Izzie" Wagner and myriad other donors made The Rose a reality.
The facility is named for the late I.J. "Izzie" Wagner's mother. The 200-seat Leona Wagner Black Box Theatre, which opened as Phase I in 1997, is named for Mr. Wagner's sister and the 500-seat Jeanné Wagner Theatre, which opened as Phase II in 2002, is named for Mr. Wagner's wife. As a testament to the vitality of and demand for affordable performance space in Salt Lake City, a rehearsal studio was converted into the 75-seat Studio Theatre in 2002.
The Rose houses four resident companies: Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, Plan-B Theatre Company, Repertory Dance Theatre and Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company -- Pygmalion Theatre Company and SB Dance are tenant companies.
Additionally, frequent renters of performance space at the Rose include Children's Ballet Theatre, Children's Dance Theatre, Dance Theatre Coalition, Meat & Potato Theatre, Music in the Box, New Space Entertainment, Theatre Arts Conservatory, Utah Contemporary Theatre, Wasatch Dance Collective and Wasatch Theatre Company.
